My love for Angus cattle has been a lifetime. My grandparents, Don & Mary Henderson, owned and operated Heatherbrook Farm which lasted 4 generations. Heatherbrook Farms was one of the original 4 Angus operations in Canada.
Our cowherd originated from the Bowerman Bros. herd. Harvey Bowerman had seeked out OCC Legacy 839L from the Olde Cattle Co. program in Kansas. Harvey had the largest herd of direct Legacy daughters in Canada. The lasting effects of Legacy has carried on many generations after he was gone. Many of his maternal grandsons were sale day favourites over the years. With guidance from Harvey, we have slowly taken over his cowherd and maintained the purity of the original Bowerman cows.
We have been using some more modern genetics carefully; with inputs from my uncle, Jim J. Henderson, and father-in-law, Ivan Demmans of Nesset Lake Angus. Jim has seeked out some extremely good donor cows over the last couple years that he has mated with industry-leading bulls. The embryos and offspring of these cows have topped many sales. Since Lacey and I's marriage, there has been more and more cows with the Nesset Lake prefix show up in our herd. They have been crossing extremely well with out foundation genetic cows and making a positive impact on our herd.
